If one day you would have woken up and told a single Kenyan that after such anticipation and turning out in large numbers to cast their votes as they choose their leaders for the next five years. Kenyans queued for long hours and finally casted their votes for the leader that they really wanted.
All hell broke loose when there were disputes about the presidency results on who had won because every part shouted at the top of their voices in favor of their party and leader. In this case the two big parties and names were ODM for Raila and PNU for Kibaki. For instance Mwai Kibaki was announced the winner for presidential elections. Minutes after the presidential results being announced different communities started fighting against one another and this is what brought about the vocabulary of IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) in Kenya. Imagine being a refugee in your country, the worst that happened to innocent Kenyans.
There are 8 provinces in Kenya and we have communities that have dominated every province. At the coast we Swahilis mostly, rift valley we got kalenjins, nyanza province we got luo, western we got luhya , central we got kikuyus, eastern we got kambas and so forth.
Let’s give an example of kikuyu person who originally is from central Kenya but in this case was born and bred in the rift valley or nyanza province of Kenya. This is the place he has always called home. This person has to be chased now because of voting difference. In a flash your neighbor for many years becomes your worst enemy and starts attacking you chasing you away from your home leaving you internally displaced.
The kikuyu community was the most affected because they are widely spread in all parts of the country since they are opportunists and business oriented thus like to invest varsily. Most of them were attacked by the other communities and thrown out hence ended up in camps as refugees in their own country what a misery. It’s now over 5months and the government’s effort to return them to their homes is proving difficult because they are afraid to go back from where they were chased.
While they are at it the leaders who caused them the pain are busy fighting among themselves over cabinet positions. ¾ of them don’t even bother about what is happening back at the provinces or at their constituencies. Now they have formed a grand coalition, they seat and eat together while the Kenyans who voted for the leaders have been adversely been affected: others lost their lives
The affected people will forever have to leave with this stigma and memories the rest of their lives just because of our uncaring and greedy leaders.
People wake up and learn to love and fight for yourself not for any other person.
Bye, Evelyn
